Greenville Drive News Release

Hickory, NC - For the second consecutive night, the Greenville Drive and Hickory Crawdads had to play extra innings to decide a winner. On this night, however, the Drive came out on top thanks to 13th inning heroics by Mike Meyers in a 2-1 victory.

After the Drive (4-4, 42-36) received a one-out single from Javier Guerra in the 13th, Meyers followed with a double to left field against Shane McCain (0-1) to make the score 2-1.

In the bottom of the 13th, Hickory placed their first two hitters on base, but Mario Alcantara (3-1) rebounded by getting a pop out on a bunt and a double play to close out the game.

The Crawdads took a 1-0 lead in the third inning after an RBI single by Jairo Beras, the third hit of the inning off Drive starter Michael Kopech.

That run was the only blemish against Kopech, who worked six innings to set a new career high. He allowed six hits and one walk while striking out five. The bullpen did their job as well, with Carlos Pinales following with four scoreless frames and Alcantara delivering three of his own.

The score remained 1-0 until the top of the ninth, when the Drive knotted the game up. Mike Meyers drew a two-out walk and moved to second on a single by Bryan Hudson. Joseph Monge then greeted new Hickory pitcher Erik Swanson with a line drive single to right field to tie the game.

Meyers was one of five Drive players with two hits on the night, as Guerra, Hudson, Monge and Nick Longhi joined him. Juremi Profar was the lone Hickory batter with a two-hit game.

The series concludes on Friday night in Hickory at 7:00 PM. The Drive will send LH Jalen Beeks (6-4, 4.25 ERA) to the hill as they look to clinch a split of the four-game set, and LH Brett Martin (3-2, 2.91) takes the mound for the Crawdads.
