
Braves Still Slumping

Mississippi Braves News Release
The Braves lost their fourth straight one-run game to the Smokies and their sixth overall against Tennessee in front of an announced crowd of 3,772 at Smokies Park. The Braves (5-10) dropped their fifth straight game overall and fell to 47-38 on the season. The Smokies (9-6) won their third straight game and improved to 45-38 overall on the season.
The Smokies jumped on the board first with a 3-run first inning as Sam Fuld tripled to start the game. He was brought in by Gary Cates, Jr. on a sacrifice fly. Jake Fox singled and Casey McGehee reached on a two-out walk as Jemel Spearman drove them both in with a two-out double making it 3-0.
The Braves let a huge scoring chance get away in the 3rd inning as Brandon Jones bounced into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded. The Braves finally got on the board as Carl Loadenthal drove in Van Pope with a two-out RBI double in the 5th inning. The Smokies got the run right back in the 6th with a pair of doubles by Tyler Colvin and Chris Robinson. The Braves responded in the 7th as Mike Rozema led off with his fourth double of the year. Loadenthal drove him in with another two-out RBI single.
In the 9th inning the Braves got their first two batters on as Jurich singled and Sammons was hit by a pitch. Rozema sacrificed them to 2nd and 3rd which allowed Pope to knock one in on an RBI groundout. Josh Burrus struck out with Sammons stranded at 2nd base to end the game.
Carl Loadenthal was the Braves player of the game as he finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and he reached base 3 times for the Braves. He raised his average up to .296 and his RBI total to 19.
The Braves will wrap up a 4-game series in Sevierville Tennessee at Smokies Park as they take on the Tennessee Smokies, the AA Affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, in the fnal game of their Southern League 4-Game Series. The Braves On Deck Circle presented by Wendy's will air starting at 5:15pm (CT). The First Pitch will follow at 6:15pm (CT). The Braves are scheduled to send LHP Francisely Bueno (2-4, 3.39 ERA) to the hill in search of his 3rd win, while the Smokies will counter with LHP Paul Schappert (3-3, 5.40 ERA) who is looking for his fourth victory.
