Mobile BayBears News Release

JACKSONVILLE, FL - The BayBears lost for the first time in over a week Monday, falling to Jacksonville 6-2. The loss ends an eight-game winning streak for the BayBears, and puts Mobile into third place, two games behind first place Jacksonville.

The Suns scored three times in the first inning off Mobile starter Max Scherzer (1-2), on an RBI single to left by Kevin Howard, and a two-run single by A.J. Ellis. The BayBears came back in the third with an RBI single by Javier Brito, the first of two RBI singles he had on the night. Suns outfielder Anthony Raglani hit two home runs in the game, including a line drive home run to right field in the eighth inning, putting the Suns up 6-2 to stay.

Scherzer suffered the loss, pitching six innings, allowing four runs and striking out six. Jacksonville lefthander Mike Megrew, whom the BayBears beat in May on eight earned runs in four innings, held Mobile to two runs in his five innings of work. Jacksonville reliever Ramon Trancoso retired all nine batters he saw in three innings of work, striking out five BayBears. Suns All-Star closer Jon Meloan pitched a scoreless ninth.

The BayBears send RHP Brooks Brown (1-0) to the mound Tuesday, while Jacksonville counters with RHP Joey Norrito (4-0) in the series finale at 6:05 PM. The BayBears next return home on July 4th, hosting Montgomery at 7:05.
