Three formers Smokies on MLB All-Star Roster

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - Major League Baseball announced the starting and reserve rosters for the upcoming All-Star Game yesterday, which will take place on Tuesday July 10th at AT&T Park in San Francisco, CA. Three former Tennessee Smokies players were selected to play in this year's MLB All-Star Game. Dan Haren from the Oakland Athletics, Michael Young from the Texas Rangers, and Orlando Hudson of the Arizona Diamondbacks will take part in the 2007 MLB All-Star Game.

Haren, who was selected for his first All-Star appearance, was a starting pitcher for the Smokies during the 2003 season. He currently leads the American League with a 2.20 ERA and has compiled a record of 10-2 this season. Haren currently has 98 strikeouts on the season, and is amongst the AL league leaders in innings pitched with 123.0 on the season.

Young is enjoying his fourth selection to the AL All-Star roster for the 2007 season. He was named as the MLB All-Star MVP in 2006 after producing the game-winning hit to give the American League the victory. Young is currently batting .293 on the season, including 4 home runs, 48 RBI, and 22 doubles. Young played for the Tennessee Smokies during the 2000 season, the first year of Smokies Park existence.

Orlando Hudson will also be enjoying his first selection to the MLB All-Star Game as a member of the National League squad. Hudson, who was a teammate to Young during the 2000 season for the Smokies, is having a banner season for the Diamondbacks. During the 2007 season, Hudson is currently batting .302 in Arizona with seven home runs, 46 RBI, and 19 doubles. Hudson led all MLB hitters for several weeks with the highest batting average during April and early May. Orlando played for the Smokies during the 2000 and 2001 seasons at Smokies Park.

The Tennessee Smokies continue their four-game series with the Mississippi Braves on Monday night at Smokies Park at 7:15 pm. Tuesday night will be the Smokies annual Independence Day Fireworks post-game show with game time at 7:15 pm.
