Brahmas Use Extra Period to Beat 'Bugs 5-4

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (November 14)-Eight seconds. That is all it takes to qualify for a ride in bull riding. Eight seconds is also all it took for the Brahmas to send a game into overtime to win over Bossier-Shreveport 5-4.
It did not take long for the Brahmas to get on the board as rookie Marc Belanger shot the puck past 'Bugs netminder Jon Horrell on Texas' second shot of the night. Assists were given to Matt Quinn and Kevin McLeod. Tonight was the return of the Brahmas leading scorer from last season, Jordan Cameron. Thirty-six seconds following the Brahmas first goal of the night, Cameron made sure his presence was felt as he found the back of the net at the 17:15 mark to put Texas up 2-0.
Texas was unable to celebrate for very long as Bossier came back with three unanswered goals on Brahmas goalie Brett Jaeger in the first, two coming from the powerplay. The Brahmas were outshot 9-12 in the opening period.
Both teams went scoreless in the second period, yet the Brahmas were able to keep the game's tempo up outshooting Bossier 9-5. Eight penalties were called in the period, three coming against Texas.
Bossier came back from the second intermission firing on Jaeger and were able to extend their lead by two goals. Minutes later the Brahmas powerplay went to action and were able to convert when defenseman Kevin McLeod scored his second goal of the season. Time seemed to be passing quickly as the Brahmas were still down by a single goal, but the Brahmas were not ready to give up quite yet.
Out of desperation Texas went with an empty net with :50 seconds remaining in the final period, and the strategy worked as Justin Kinnunen was able to pull off a heroic goal at the :8 second mark to give the Brahmas hope and send the teams into the extra period.
As overtime progressed the Brahmas and Mudbugs continued to work hard as both teams wanted to earn the two points. Ultimately it was a Bossier penalty that put Texas on the man advantage that gave the Brahmas the 5-4 win. Forward Grant Jacobsen's shot on Horrell gave the Brahmas the 5-4 OT victory.
Jaeger stopped 21 of 25 shots faced and the Brahmas outshot the Mudbugs 33-25. Texas is now 6-3-1 with 13 points in the Southeast division.
