New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Scorpions head coach Randy Murphy has made a couple of moves prior to tonight's game against Rocky Mountain. Defenseman Michael Beynon has been signed and Mike MacDonald has been activated from the injured reserve.

Beynon, 25, started the season with Las Vegas in the ECHL appearing in 6 games and picking up one assist. The 6'3", 210-pounder will add size to the Scorpions blue line.

When arriving in New Mexico, two familiar faces will greet Beynon. He spent his collegiate career at Union College, the same school that produced current Scorps Sam Bowles and Torren Delforte.

While at Union, Beynon appeared in 141 games scoring 40 points (7G, 33A). The Nepean, Ontario native was named the team's assistant captain during his senior season. After graduation, the Idaho Steelheads signed Beynon for their playoff run. Overall, he appeared in 8 games picking up one assist and six penalty minutes. Prior to reporting to Las Vegas he reported to Peoria's AHL training camp.

MacDonald comes off the injured reserved energized to help the Scorpions on the ice. The forward played in four games with his new team before suffering an upper body injury.

To make room on the roster defenseman Russell Smith has been waived. The rookie played in 11 games picking up one assist and 37 penalty minutes. Also, defenseman Tyler Fuller has been placed on the 14-day inured reserve.
