Oklahoma City Blazers News Release

(Southaven, MS) -- Goaltender Andy Franck made 34 saves in backstopping the Oklahoma City Blazers to a 3-1 victory over the Mississippi RiverKings at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven on Friday night. It was the ninth win of the year for the Blazers' goaltender, helping Oklahoma City to a 9-0-2 record, while the RiverKings lost their second straight and fell to 5-6-0 for the campaign.

Offensively, Oklahoma City got support from Oriel McHugh and Ted Vandermeer, who each scored a goal and added an assist for the Northeast Division-leading Blazers.

Oklahoma City opened the scoring in the first period, converting a 3-on-2 break for D.J. Jelitto's fifth goal of the season, beating RiverKings' goaltender Kevin Beech at 16:38 of the opening frame.

Mississippi tied the game in the second period when Dallas Costanzo scored his third goal of the year at 7:34, assisted by Andrew Lackner and Matt Pierce. But, Oklahoma City came back with a power play goal from McHugh late in the period at 16:29 to give the Blazers a 2-1 edge after forty minutes of play.

Vandermeer finished the scoring for Oklahoma City in the third period with his fourth goal of the year at 5:53.

The Blazers won, despite being outshot by Mississippi 35-20, including a 16-5 edge in shots by the RiverKings in the second period.

Beech (5-5-0) suffered the loss with a 17-save effort for the RiverKings.

The same two teams meet up again Saturday night at 7:05 PM at the DeSoto Civic Center. It will be the annual Teddy Bear Toss and the toy drive for Toys for Tots. Fans will be encouraged to throw teddy bears on the ice when the RiverKings score their first goal.
