Brahmas Make Third Period Comeback, Fall Short in Shootout
December 2, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - The Brahmas made a third period comeback in Friday night's physical game versus Allen, but lost 4-3 in a shootout.
The Americans came out strong in the first period, getting goals from Bruce Graham and Jim McKenzie to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Brahmas fought back in the second period as Phil Fox brought the Brahmas within a goal at the 5:37 mark with his sixth goal of the season. Then at the 14:28 mark, Brock Meadows found the back of the net for the first time this season to tie the score at two. But with under a minute remaining in the second period, Bruce Graham scored his second powerplay goal of the night to give the Americans the lead heading into the third period.
After fifteen minutes of scoreless hockey to start the third period, Ross Rouleau scored his first goal of the season to tie the score at three and send the game to overtime.
The game could not be settled in an extra five minutes, so the Brahmas and Americans went to a shootout. Both teams scored three times in their first four shots, but a Brendon Hodge miss opened the door for Keith Johnson to put one past Texas netminder Steve Silverthorn and end the game.
The inability to score on powerplays hurt the Brahmas again on Friday, as Allen converted on two of five opportunites and the Brahmas were 0-4.
A physical game which featured two fights and several more scrums ended in dramatic fashion, but for the Brahmas, Saturday night cannot come soon enough. Texas and Allen will face off once again on Saturday at 7:30pm at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
