Bees Score Four in First, Win 5-3

December 2, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

An early penalty to start the game made it look like it was going to be a tough night for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (10-6-0) but Aaron Lee's short-handed strike quickly flipped the script. The Bees exploded for four goals in the first period and turned in a dominant performance against the Arizona Sundogs (7-9-3) on their way to a 5-1 win Friday night at State Farm Arena.

Dan Gendur had a four point night, Tomas Klempa potted two goals, and seven different Bees recorded points in the win. John Murray finished the night with 37 saves.

With Brandon Campos in the box for boarding 33 seconds into the first Scott Balan sent Jason Dixon up through the neutral zone where he found a streaking Lee. Lee took the pass and fired a wrist shot that got past Arizona netminder Scott Reid to put the Bees up one.

Jeff Hazlewood was able to answer not long after when he potted a rebound that Murray couldn't handle, but it would be a while until the Sundogs would see the back of the net again.

Klempa gave the Bees the lead at 11:58 in the first when he rushed the net slipped it five-hole. Later in the first, with the Bees on a 5-on-3 Gendur fired a rocket from the point that zipped past Reid. Klempa would strike again to close out the first period.

Brandon Campos would score in the second to cap off the scoring for the Bees.

Hazelwood would score again for Arizona in the third along with a goal from Kyle Hood but the Sundog rally fell short.

The win put the Bees in a tie for third place in the Berry Conference only two points behind first place Wichita.

The Sundogs return to the Hive Saturday night. Puck drop is at 7:30.
