Dayton Gems News Release
Dayton, OH - The Dayton Gems hit the road for the two game conclusion to their weekend 3-in-3 series with the Mavericks, and skate into Independence, Missouri fresh off a convincing 4-1 win last night on home ice in the first meeting between the two clubs since March.
For the Gems (7-5-4), tonight's meeting with the "Mavs" is the first trip to the Independence Events Center of the season, with Dayton's 4-2-2 road record in tow.
Game Day In Missouri
With two points already in the bank for the Gems, Dayton looks to continue their winning ways one night after a thrilling Thursday night win against the Mavs on Cassano's Italian Ice inside the historic Hara Arena in Dayton.
Snapping his scoring skid, Jon Ornelas would lead his Gems on the ice and into the scoresheet last night, earning two goals including the eventual game-winner despite being denied in his second period penalty shot attempt (deke, hit near post).
Leadership for Dayton would flow on both ends of the ice, with starting netminder Bryan Hogan making an impressive 41 saves for his fifth win of the season, while Gems veteran captain Greg Labenski notched his first goal of the season to seal the 4-1 final.
Both teams will conclude the weekend series with their third game in as many nights on Saturday at Missouri.
Gems Welcome Fukala
The Dayton Gems professional hockey team, a proud member of the Central Hockey League, announced that they have signed forward Kevin Fukala.
Coming to the Gems after appearing in 5 games with the Mississippi RiverKings of the Southern Professional Hockey League, the 26 year old Elgin, Illinois native registered one goal and 19 penalty minutes.
Last season, Fukala split time between the ECHL with Florida, the CHL in Bloomington and the "single-A" SPHL with Augusta respectively. Prior to turning professional, Fukala spent four seasons playing for the University of Central Oklahoma in the ACHA.
