Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The rival Rapid City Rush and Fort Wayne Komets met at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Friday night. Despite two goals from Rush defenseman Riley Weselowski, the visiting Komets earned a 3-2 win. The teams hit the ice again tomorrow at 7:05pm and tickets are still available by calling 716-PUCK (7825) or online at www.gotmine.com
Rush defenseman Riley Weselowski picked up his second goal of the season, backhanding home a rebound from the slot, giving the Rush a 1-0 lead less than twelve minutes in. Assisting on the goal was newly acquired rookie Levi Lind who was appearing in his first game and veteran Jesse Schultz who extended his point streak to thirteen games. The Komets bounced back less than two minutes later when defenseman Frankie DeAngelis set up Chris Auger with a wide-open net for his fifth of the season. The Komets then took their first lead of the game while on a powerplay when Bobby Chaumont poured in the go-ahead goal with only three seconds left in the opening frame.
Two and a half minutes into the second period, Weselowski netted his second of the game, ripping home a slapshot from the blueline for a powerplay goal that evened the score at 2-2. Finally, a defensive zone turnover by the Rush allowed Fort Wayne team captain Colin Chaulk to snap a wrist shot in from the right faceoff circle for the eventual game winner.
