Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (December 4)- The Texas Brahmas kept their winning streak alive as they won their third straight game 4-1 as they faced the Austin Ice Bats Tuesday evening at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
The night was for Brahmas' netminder Jim Healey as he made his first start of the season. Though Healey did not see a lot of action in the opening period, the Brahmas did get on the board when forward Tyler Skworchinski whipped a goal past Ice Bats goaltender Miguel Beaudry. Anders Strome and Kevin McLeod had the assists.
As the second period began, both benches were playing safe hockey until Blair Manning took a pass from Chris Thompson and shot it past Beaudry to put the Brahmas up 2-0. The period ended with the Brahmas outshooting the Bats 22-14.
Texas fans were ready for another win as the third period began and their team with the lead. The Brahmas attack was on full force again when forward Skworchinski netted his second goal of the night at the 5:54 mark from Anders Strome.
Austin had enough and found an opportunity when a Brahmas penalty on Grant Jacobsen was called. Ice Bat forward Brendan Cook scored the lone goal on Healey on the powerplay.
Brahmas' forward Jordan Cameron came back with resentment as he followed up the Ice Bats goal minutes later with his own goal, to increase the Brahmas lead to 4-1. Robin Big Snake was awarded the assist. Big Snake's night was not quite finished yet as the Brahmas' enforcer and Ice Bat defenseman Aaron Wilson went to center ice for an old school hockey brawl.
In the end, the battle of the two teams with two-game winning streaks was won by the Brahmas as Texas prevailed with a final score 4-1. Healey in his starting debut stopped 20 of 21 shots and improved their record to 11-5. The Ice Bats are now 5-14-1.
The Brahmas will return to the ice at the NYTEX Sports Centre Friday, December 7, when they face the Southeast divisional leaders, Laredo Bucks for a 7:05 PM start on Texas Lottery Night. For ticket information please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423 or at www.brahmas.com.
