Tough Start to Road Trip

The Youngstown SteelHounds are currently 1-2-0 on their five game road trip. Friday night the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs defeated the Hounds 7-2. Saturday night the Hounds fell to the Texas Brahmas by a score of 5-2. Sunday afternoon the Hounds rebounded and were able to defeat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees by a score of 7-2. Chris Richards scored two goals and Layne Sedevie made 26 saves on 28 shots to record his first win as a SteelHound goaltender.

What's on Tap: Weekend in Mississippi

The Hounds will stay on the road and will play the Mississippi RiverKings on both Friday and Saturday night with 8:05 starts scheduled for both games. The Hounds are 14-4-1 (29 points) and have a four point lead on the RiverKings (12-5-1, 25 points) for first place in the Northeast Division. These two teams have taken a game from each other already this season. The Hounds defeated Mississippi back on October 20th while the RiverKings handed Youngstown their first loss in regulation back on November 16th. Welcome Back Layne

The Hounds announced on Saturday that they had resigned goaltender Layne Sedevie. Sedevie, 24, attended Hounds training camp in October before signing with the Indiana Ice Miners of the Mid Atlantic Hockey League. In three starts he was a perfect 3-0-0 before signing with the Wichita Thunder on November 17th. Sedevie appeared in two games for the Thunder posting a 1-0-0 record with a 2.71 goals against average and .917 save percentage. Saturday night he replaced Brad Roberts at the 11:30 mark of the opening period and made 16 saves on 18 shots in the Hounds 5-2 loss to the Brahmas. Sunday afternoon the rookie made his first start a successful one as he made 26 saves on 28 shots to lead the Hounds to a 7-2 win over Rio Grande Valley. Sedevie is 5-0-0 with two no decisions for his professional career.

Petr Pohl Returns

Last Wednesday the Hounds announced that forward Petr Pohl was reassigned to the Hounds by the National Hockey League's Columbus Blue Jackets. Pohl, 21, was recalled to the American Hockey League's Syracuse Crunch on November 15th. In two games he accumulated five penalty minutes. Prior to being moved up to Syracuse the native of Prostejov, Czech Republic had eight goals and 12 assists in just 12 games for the Hounds. In three games since his return he has accumulated two assists. His 22 points ranks him in the top 20 for point leaders. Despite leaving the league for over a week he is still atop the Central Hockey League's Three Stars leader board.

Leading the Way

Sunday afternoon saw forward Eric Przepiorka become the first Hound to score 10 goals this season. Przepiorka and Chris Richards are tied for the team lead in points with 24. Przepiorka's comes from 10 goals and 14 assists while the captain's comes form seven goals and a team leading 17 assists. Defenseman Milan Maslonka leads the CHL in penalty minutes with 98. Forward Adam Smyth is second in that category with 94.

Next Home Stand

The Hounds will take on the Texas Brahmas on Friday, December 14th, and Saturday, December 15th. Fans are encouraged to bring items to donate to Toys For Tots to both 7:05 PM games. In addition, on Friday the 14th the first 500 kids 12 & under will receive a free SteelHounds Youth Jersey, Courtesy of ARMSTRONG. Saturday the 15th will also be the annual "Teddy Bear Toss." Fans can bring teddy bears to throw onto the ice after the Hounds score their first goal. All teddy bears collected will be donated to Toys For Tots. This year there will be a new twist to the SteelHounds Teddy Bear Toss. All fans bringing a stuffed penguin to be donated will receive a ticket good for one free child's admission to the National Aviary. The National Aviary will be bringing a live African Penguin to the Chevrolet Centre on Saturday the 15th to participate in the festivities.
