Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs got a pair of goals from Kevin Cooper and scored three times on the powerplay on their way to a 5-2 victory over Oklahoma City Tuesday night at the CenturyTel Center . It was Bossier-Shreveport's seventh consecutive home win and tenth in their last 12 games overall.

Cooper scored twice in the second period, Elias Godoy had three assists and Ken Carroll stopped a season-high 38 shots as the Mudbugs improved their record to 10-6-2. Oklahoma City dropped to 8-10-1 in the loss.

The first period was a back and forth affair, with the Mudbugs scoring early and the Blazers scoring late. After a Brett Smith face-off win, Justin Aikins fed the puck to Karlis Zirnis in front. Zirnis put in the rebound of his initial shot for his second goal of the season to put the 'Bugs up 1-0 early on. Later in the first though, Marty Standish would pick up a loose puck in the corner and bring it around the net before going short-side on Ken Carroll to tie the game at one.

The Mudbugs took control of the game in the second period though, scoring three goals to go up 4-1 after two. The first was a great puck movement play, from Ryan Fairbarn to Justin Aikins to Elias Godoy, who flew into the offensive zone down the boards and centered a perfect pass. Cooper, going hard to the net, redirected the puck past Jason Wolfe to put Bossier-Shreveport up 2-1. Then Godoy set up another great goal, feeding a pass across the slot to Tyrel Lucas, who one-timed home his seventh goal of the year. Before the period was out, the Mudbugs took control on a nice individual effort from Cooper. He stole the puck just outside the Blazers' blue line and went in alone on a breakaway, tucking the puck between Wolfe's legs to put the 'Bugs up by three after 40 minutes.

The score remained 4-1 through much of the third period, with Bossier-Shreveport even killing off 1:38 of 5-on-3 powerplay time for the Blazers. Oklahoma City would then take advantage of a Mudbugs powerplay though, with a shorthanded goal by Dallas Flaman that cut the lead back to two. But only 16 seconds later, Joe Ori scored a powerplay goal from Daniel Pegoraro and Godoy to provide the final margin of 5-2.

Ken Carroll stopped 38 of the 40 Blazers shots on the night to improve his record to 3-3-1 on the year. The Mudbugs finished with 28 shots on goal and went 3 for 8 on the powerplay, the second time this year they've scored three powerplay goals in a game. Bossier-Shreveport's penalty killing unit held Oklahoma City to a 0 for 6 night on the man advantage.

Up next for Bossier-Shreveport will be their only trip this season to the state of Colorado , where they will play a pair of road games against the Rocky Mountain Rage on Friday night and the Colorado Eagles on Saturday. Both games will start at 8:05 pm Central Time and can be heard on 1130 AM KWKH, with the pre-game show starting at 7:45. Both games will also be carried live on the internet through the CHL Network.
