Hagerstown Flying Boxcars News Release

York PA - The Hagerstown Flying Boxcars opened their season on Thursday night, facing off against the York Revolution at Wellspan Park.

Pitcher Parker Markel took the mound, throwing the first ever Boxcars pitch, and headlined what would become a historic night.

The Boxcars took the lead early, after outfielder Magneuris Sierra singled off of the second pitch on the evening. Curtis Terry would bring him home, to begin his monster day. The first baseman notched three runs batted in on the night, with Eury Perez scoring the fourth runner.

Parker Markel went six innings for the Boxcars, registering seven strikeouts, Domingo Jiminez struck out three through two, and Enrique Sanatana secured the combined no-hitter in the ninth, taking down two batters to seal the deal.

It is just the fourth combined no-hitter in Atlantic League history, and the first time any no-hitter has been thrown on an Atlantic League opening day.

The Boxcars will be back in action tomorrow night (4/26) in the second game of their four-game stand in York.
