
Bowden And Sea Dogs Fall Short, Lose To Trenton 3-2

(Portland, ME) - Edwar Gonzalez hit a 2-run homer off Michael Bowden (7-4) in the sixth inning, aiding the Trenton Thunder (49-32) to an 8-2 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (44-35) on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field.
Portland dropped 2 of 3 over the weekend to Trenton and open up a 4-game set against the Thunder on Monday night at Waterfront Park.
Phil Coke (6-3) earned the win for Trenton in his 16th start of the season. The lefty yielded seven hits and two runs (one earned) over 6 IP.
Bowden took the loss and his first since May 2 when he lost at Trenton. The righty suffered his first defeat at Hadlock Field since April 21 against New Hampshire. For the afternoon, Bowden allowed three runs on seven hits in 5.1 IP and fanned six.
Stephen Jackson worked the final three innings for the visitors to earn his second save for the Thunder.
OF Jose Tabata had three hits and 4 RBI, blasting a 3-run homer off Daniel Haigwood with 2-outs in the ninth inning. Gonzalez had two hits and knocked Mike James out of the game in the 9th inning with a run-scoring double off the Maine Monster.
Portland took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning off Coke. Sandy Madera reached on a 2-base error by SS Ramiro Pena and scored on a double by Zach Daeges. Trenton tied the game in the fourth inning on Tabata's 2-out, run-scoring single.
In the fifth inning, Tony Granadillo gave Portland a 2-1 lead with an RBI single, scoring Ryan Khoury. Granadillo picked up the RBI with 2-outs, his team-leading 20th of the season.
Trenton scored five runs off James and Haigwood in the ninth inning with two outs.
Daeges and John Otness each had two hits for Portland. The Sea Dogs are 3-6 against Trenton and 21-17 at Hadlock Field.
Portland opens up a 4-game series on Monday night against the Trenton Thunder at Waterfront Park - game time is 7:05 PM.
