Harrisburg Senators News Release

Erie, PA - Senators OF Roger Bernadina is set to get his first taste of the major leagues. He was recalled by the Washington Nationals on Saturday night. Bernadina left Saturday's game at the Erie SeaWolves to join the team at Nationals Park.

Bernadina, 24, was in the top ten in the Eastern League in batting average (.323), runs scored (47), stolen bases (26) and outfield assists (8) at the time of his promotion. He was added to the Nationals' 40-man roster last October after leading Team Netherlands to the championship in the European Olympic Qualifier in Spain. Bernadina lives in Den Haag, Holland in the off-season. He was born on the Caribbean island of Curacao, part of the Netherlands Antilles.

Bernadina is slated to bat lead off and play CF in his big league debut against the Orioles Sunday afternoon at Nationals Park. Three former Senators are in the starting line-up for the Nationals on Sunday as Bernadina joins Kory Casto (3B) and Jason Bergmann (starting pitcher).

Bernadina fills the roster spot of OF Lastings Milledge, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a groin injury. Milledge was injured during the Nationals' game Saturday night against Baltimore.

Bernadina becomes the first Senator to go directly from Harrisburg to Washington this season. RHP Collin Balester, who played in Harrisburg last season, is expected to make his major-league debut on Tuesday at the Florida Marlins.

The Senators return home on Monday night to start a four-game series and homestand against the Bowie Baysox at 6:35pm. The four-game series is highlighted by fireworks, the chance to win ownership in a Thoroughbred Race horse, and Negro League tribute night. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Senators offices at 231-4444 or online at www.senatorsbaseball.com. All four games, Monday through Thursday, against the Baysox start at 6:35pm.
