Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - Jake Laber pitched a complete game and Ron Bourquin hit two home runs as the Fargo-Moorhead beat the Rockland Boulders, 5-1, Thursday at Newman Outdoor in front of a sellout crowd of 4,759.
The RedHawks (54-30) scored three runs in the first for an early lead, then scored two in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
After Zach Penprase led the game off with a single, back-to-back home runs by Ron Bourquin and Nic Jackson gave Fargo-Moorhead an early 3-0 lead in the first.
RedHawks starter Jake Laber (7-5) allowed three hits in the second - including a Jaren Matthews RBI double for Rockland's only run of the game - but only gave up another four hits in the next seven innings for his first complete game of the season. Laber allowed one earned run and struck out four in the victory, while walking no batters on 117 pitches.
Bourquin capped off a 3-for-4 day with a two-run home run in the fifth. Bourquin picked up 4 RBIs for the RedHawks, while Nic Jackson went 2-for-4 with the other lone run batted in. Tim Alberts had the only other multi-hit game for the âHawks.
Nathaniel Roe was tabbed with the loss after allowing five runs on nine hits in five innings. Nick Serino, Marcos Frias and Alex Kreis combined for three scoreless innings of relief for the Boulders.
Fargo-Moorhead now travels to Wichita to take on the American Association-leading Wingnuts in a three-game series beginning Friday.
"It's a big series," RedHawks third baseman Ron Bourquin said. "We go into every game with the same mentality that we want to win the series. We want to continue to do the things that we've done well. We don't want to change too much - we just want to play our game."
The RedHawks return home Friday, Aug. 23, to host the Kansas City T-Bones in a three-game series. Tickets are available at fmredhawks.com or by calling (701) 235-6161.
