Crooked Numbers, Eight Straight Hits in Inning, Help Saints to 12-8 Win

ST. PAUL, MN (August 15, 2013) - The Saints used four runs in the fourth inning and added another six in the fifth to blow open a close ball game and beat the Sioux Falls Canaries 12-8 in front of 5,128 on Thursday night at Midway Stadium.

The Saints put up a crooked number in the fourth inning to erase a 1-0 Sioux Falls lead. The damage began when Joey Becker drove in the Saints first run on a bunt single. With two men still on base Jose Hernandez drove a ball over the wall in left-center field for a three-run blast to take the lead at 4-1. The home run was the fifth of the season for Hernandez. Jose was 2-3 with four RBI in the game.

The Saints attempted to put the game out of reach with a massive explosion of offense in the fifth. The Saints racked up six runs on eight consecutive hits to extend their lead to 10-1. The eight hits in the frame were one short of the franchise record, nine, which was accomplished against both Lincoln in 2007 and Winnipeg in 2004. The big hit in the inning was Willie Cabrera's two-run double off of the wall in right field. Cabrera finished the night 3-4 with a pair of RBI.

Adam Frost was able to continue the Saints scoring ways by leading off the sixth with a solo blast to left, his eighth of the season, and the Saints were ahead by ten runs. It was Frost's second home run in as many games. Dan Kaczrowski added an RBI single in the seventh to close out the scoring for the Saints.

In the eighth inning the newest Saint, and University of Minnesota product, Andy Henkemeyer notched his first professional hit with an infield single to the left side.

Billy Soule had allowed just three runs through eight innings and came on for the ninth to try and earn his first career complete game. Things went sour quickly for the right-hander when he gave up a grand slam to Jared Clark which cut the Saints lead to just 12-7. Stephen King added an RBI double to end Soule's night. Matt Meyer came on to pitch the last 0.2 innings allowing nothing but a walk to preserve the win. Soule went 8.1 innings and allowed eight runs, six earned, on nine hits while walking two and striking out six.

The Saints travel to Sioux City to take on the Explorers tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. in game one of a three game series. The Saints call on RHP Mike Koons (2-1, 4.89) while the Explorers send LHP Ryan Lucero (1-3, 4.78) to the hill. The game can be heard on 1220 AM.
