Boulders Hold Off Colonials, 3-2

RAMAPO, New York -With runs at a minimum, Rockland's pitching and defense were on display as the Boulders defeated the Pittsfield Colonials by the score of 3-2 on Irish Heritage Night at Provident Bank Park. With the win, Rockland clinches at least a tie of the four-game series.
Countless times during the game, the Colonials put runners in scoring position, but were denied. In the fifth inning, Norm Hutchins made a leaping catch at the left field wall to save a run and give Pittsfield its first out of the inning. Later in the frame, Jeremy Slayden fielded a ball that went over his head and threw it to the cut off man Cole Kraft, who then fired it home to Chase Weems to tag Pittsfield's Quentin Davis out at the plate.
Rockland's pitching was clutch in the sixth. Brett Carroll came into the game to replace Will Hassett, who pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed one run on six hits. With runners on the corners and two outs, Carroll struck out Davis to keep the Colonials of the board.
Pittsfield was able to get a quick run in the first inning. Danny Bomback came home on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Angel Molina for the first run of the ballgame.
Rockland answered in the bottom of the inning, putting together three runs on four hits. Ray Stokes led off the inning with a walk, and then scored all the way from first base on a Ryan Mollica double to even the score at one. Later in the inning, Mollica scored on a Hutchins infield single to give the Boulders a 2-1 lead. Hutchins eventually scored from second after a single from Kraft to make the score 3-1. Those were the only runs the Boulders could manufacture off of Pittsfield's Miguel Flores, who went 7 1/3 innings and struck out six.
Pittsfield tacked on another run in the eighth. With runners on first and second with two outs, Scott Knazek singled in the Colonials' second run, knocking reliever Casey Hodges out of the game in the process.
Adrian Martin came in to relieve Hodges with two outs in the eighth to record a four-out save, his 18th of the season, and close out the victory.
The Boulders (13-15, 32-42) will conclude their four-game swing with Pittsfield (17-14, 42-35) Thursday evening at Provident Bank Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Bobby Blevins (6-6) will make his 16th start for the Boulders, as he faces off with Pittsfield's Chad Paronto (7-6).
