New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, N.J. - Southpaw Michael Moore improved to 5-0 over his first seven contests with New Jersey as the Jackals blanked the New York Federals, 2-0, on Wednesday morning at Yogi Berra Stadium.
Moore scattered four hits over eight shutout innings, issuing just two walks while striking out seven batters. Jackals' closer Jeff Gogal followed with a scoreless ninth inning to notch his 13th save in as many chances.
With the game scoreless into the sixth inning, New Jersey took advantage of a New York error to open the scoring. With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Myron Leslie reached base when Federals' second baseman Mike Levy dropped a popup. Two batters later, Nick Giarraputo lined his team-leading 24th double of the season to the gap in right center, scoring Leslie with the game's first run.
The Jackals extended their lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh after Nick Santomauro led off with his second single of the day, stole second, advanced to third on a Chris Anderson sacrifice bunt, and scored on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Sean Smith.
Federals' starter Luis Pardo (0-10) pitched well, but suffered the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) over seven innings.
The Jackals and Federals meet for the final time this season on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. when New Jersey sends southpaw Jon Kibler (0-5, 7.12 ERA) to the mound against rookie right-hander Kyle Putnam (1-6, 6.35 ERA) at Yogi Berra Stadium. Cody Chrusciel and Matt Sutor have the call on the live webcast beginning 15 minutes prior to first pitch at www.jackals.com.
JACKAL BITES: With the win, Michael Moore improved to 16-8 over his three-year professional career while New York starter Luis Pardo fell to 1-27 lifetime... Nick Santomauro, who was a late addition to the Jackals' lineup due to an injury to Jordan Newton, finished 2-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored... New Jersey is now 9-4 against the Federals... The contest took just two hours, 16 minutes to complete.
