Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Reading, PAb- Yard Goats second baseman Bret Boswell drove in four runs in his first game since July 16th, but it was not enough as Reading scored five runs in the third inning to defeat Hartford 5-4 in front of 7,711 fans on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. Boswell, who just came off the Injured List, cranked a three-run homer in the third inning and then contributed with an RBI double in the fourth. Reading rallied for five runs in the third inning, highlighted by two-run doubles from first round pick Mickey Moniak, and Phillies prospect Arquimedes Gamboa.
The Yard Goats took a 3-0 lead in the second inning as Bret Boswell blasted a three-run homer over the right field fence. Bowell's 11th home run came off Reading starting pitcher Julian Garcia with two outs in the inning on a 3-2 pitch.
Hartford starter Heath Holder retired six of the first seven batters with three strikeouts before running into trouble in the third inning. Henri Lartigue led off the third with a double and the pitcher Julian Garcia worked a walk. Luke Williams followed with an RBI double to left field scoring Lartigue and making it a 3-1 game. Mickey Moniak then cracked a double down the right field line, scoring Garcia and Williams and tied the game at 3-3. The Fightins loaded the bases with two walks ending the evening for Holder. Arquimedes Gamboa followed with a flair in short right field, scoring a pair off reliever Matt Whitehouse to give Reading a 5-3 lead.
The Yard Goats made it a 5-4 game in fourth inning as Brian Serven and Bret Bowswell smashed back-to-back doubles with two outs. Boswell's RBI was his fourth in two at-bats and pulled the Yard Goats within a run.
Julian Garcia went five innings to earn the win and the Reading bullpen was solid and did not allow a single hit in the final four innings as the Fightins won the first game of the three-game series.
The Yard Goats continue the three game series in Reading, Pennsylvania on Wednesday evening at 7:10. RHP Brandon Gold will pitch for the Yard Goats and RHP Julian Garcia will start for Reading. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and 100.9 FM and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com.
