Trenton Thunder News Release

An early Chris Gittens home run and a ninth-inning Thunder threat proved insufficient Tuesday night in a 4-3 loss to the Bowie Baysox at ARM & HAMMER Park.

Gittens cleared the left field wall with a line drive off Baysox left-hander Zac Lowther (12-5) in the bottom of the first inning. The blast, Gittens' team-leading 18th of the season, followed a walk by Kyle Holder and gave the Thunder (21-26, 59-54) a 2-0 lead.

Bowie (31-13, 61-51) cut the Thunder advantage in half in the top of the fourth inning, when Jesmuel Valentin tripled and scored on a groundout. In the fifth, the Baysox plated two runs off Thunder starter Nick Green, getting a game-tying RBI-groundout from Anderson Feliz and a go-ahead RBI-double by Carlos Perez.

Hoy Jun Park promptly pulled the Thunder even in the bottom of the fifth, 3-3, on an RBI-single to right field. But after neither team scored in the sixth, the Baysox jumped back in front on another RBI-double by Perez, this time off Thunder reliever Trevor Lane (3-2).

The Baysox maintained their 4-3 lead into the ninth, where Matt Lipka led off the Thunder half with a double. But Cristian Alvarado retired the next three batters in a row, giving Bowie the win.

Lowther struck out 10 batters across six innings for the Baysox, while Green turned in his first quality start since June 30, allowing nine hits over six innings but limiting Bowie to three runs.

Rashad Crawford went 2-for-4, extending his season-high on-base streak to 14 games.

Your Thunder continue their homestand on Wednesday at 12 p.m. against the Baysox. RHP Brian Keller (3-1, 2.32) will start for the Thunder, and LHP Alex Wells (8-2, 2.12) will go for Bowie. Pregame coverage begins at 11:40 p.m. on 920 AM The Jersey or online at TrentonThunder.com/Broadcast.
