MIDLAND, MI - The Great Lakes Loons were powered by the bat of Loons veteran third baseman Jesse Bosnik, who crushed a home run in the fourth inning Tuesday night at Dow Diamond to help the Loons to their first win of the season: a 5-4 victory over the Lake County Captains.

Bosnik, one of the two return Loons from the 2011 squad, hit a double in the second inning to drive in two runs, level the game at two apiece, and end the Loons 12-inning scoreless streak. The hit was Bosnik's first of the season and just the beginning of the 23-year-old's big night.

The Loons went hitless until Bosnik's next at-bat: a two-run home run down the right-field line, estimated at 415'. Bosnik's home run was the team's first of the season and put Great Lakes up 4-2. Bosnik added a single in the sixth for his third hit and the Loons held on to secure the victory.

"The first win is always the toughest," Bosnik said, explaining the Loons slow start. "Guys don't really know what to expect when you go 0-4. [You] don't want to struggle. Hopefully we can rattle some wins off now, after getting that first one out of the way, and good things will follow."

Juan Noriega picked up the win, tossing four strikeouts in 2.1 scoreless innings of work. Starter Arismendy Ozoria allowed three runs, two earned, to the Captains before leaving the game with a blister during the fifth inning. Loons lefty Matt Shelton got the hold, pitching 1.1 innings while Yimi Garcia notched his first save of the season after allowing one run in the ninth inning. Captains starter Kyle Blair (0-1) received the loss.

The Captains put the first run on the board in the first inning when designated hitter Alex Monsalve dropped a single into right field to score leadoff batter LeVon Washington, who reached on a bunt single. Lake County added another run in the second inning via a sacrifice fly from catcher Alex Lavisky. Lake County picked up a run in the fifth on a groundout and another in the ninth with a triple.

The Loons will look to win the series Wednesday at 2:05 p.m. by sending Opening Day starter LHP Jarret Martin (0-0, 0.00) to the hill to face the Captains RHP Felix Sterling (0-0, 3.26).

The Great Lakes Loons are a sixth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and are in the middle of their 5th Anniversary Celebration, which kicked off in August 2011 and will continue throughout the 2012 season.
