South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

SOUTH BEND - The South Bend Silver Hawks (2-3) surrendered seven runs in the fourth inning Tuesday and dropped the middle game of a three-game series with the Fort Wayne TinCaps (2-3) by an 8-1 final.

Temperatures at gametime were in the mid-30s and continued to fall throughout the night.

The TinCaps knocked Hawks starter J.R. Bradley out of the game during that big fourth inning. Bradley allowed eight runs - all earned - on 11 hits over 3.1 innings. Bradley (0-1) struck out four in the losing effort. Cody Hebner (1-0) struck out nine over five innings and snagged the win for Fort Wayne. Hebner struck out six of the first seven batters he faced.

Fort Wayne's Austin Hedges hit a grandslam in the fourth inning to open the game up. Twelve men would hit in the inning and at one point the TinCaps recorded seven consecutive hits. Taylor Siemens entered to record the final two outs of the inning.

The Silver Hawks scored their lone run of the game in the eighth inning on a broken bat RBI basehit from Matt Helm.

The Silver Hawks bullpen was efficient for a second straight night. Siemens and Seth Simmons each tossed 2.1 scoreless innings while Matt Sample hurled a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts. The TinCaps recorded 15 hits, the most the Hawks have allowed this season. The eight runs allowed are also a season-high. Fort Wayne was 5-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

Ender Inciarte and Helm extended their hitting streaks to five games. Casey McElroy and Donavan Tate each registered three hits for the TinCaps.

The Silver Hawks did not committ an error and made a few nice defensive plays. Josh Parr made a diving stop to begin a 6-4-3 double play to close out the first inning.

The Hawks and TinCaps will play the rubber match tomorrow night at Coveleski Stadium. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m. EST with right-hander Archie Bradley (0-1) taking the hill for the Hawks. The TinCaps will counter with left-hander Frank Garces.
