Brooks Solid as Cougars Top Beloit

GENEVA, Ill. - Aaron Brooks tossed five scoreless innings as he paced the Kane County Cougars passed the Beloit Snappers in an 8-3 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Brooks (1-0) became the first member of the Kane County (3-2) starting rotation to pick up a win as he held the Snappers (2-3) off the board through the first five frames while only coughing up three hits. Brooks walked a pair and fanned three while never allowing a runner to reach third base.

Beloit starter Matt Summers matched Brooks through the first three innings but couldn't keep the Cougars from scoring in the fourth. Danny Mateo started the inning with a single and was at third with two outs when Lane Adams knocked him home. Adams stole second and scored on a knock from Justin Trapp.

In the fifth, the Cougars chased Summers from the contest and blew the game open with five runs. Mateo cracked an RBI double to score Edul Escobar, after he reached on an error. Jorge Bonifacio drew Mateo home with a bloop single while Adams added two runs by smashing a two-base hit. Adams crossed home again on another two-bagger off the bat of Trapp to put the Cougars up by seven.

Miguel Sano tallied the first Beloit run with a triple in the sixth inning off Jonathan Dooley. Adams picked up his fourth ribbie of the game in the bottom of the seventh as a sac fly allowed Mateo to score his third run of the game. Nick Graffeo gave up two runs in the final two innings including a home run to Danny Ortiz before recording the final out.
