Wausau Woodchucks News Release
WAUSAU, WI - The Wisconsin Woodchucks traveled to Green Bay for another close game with the Booyah. There was early scoring from both teams, but the Booyah never let go of their third inning lead, winning by a close score of 4-3.
The game started when Woodchucks third baseman Adam Frank's bat stayed hot with a single that represented the first hit of the game. The hit was Frank's 13th in the past seven days. Frank could not manage to stay on base, though. He got picked off at first base. Woodchucks' designated hitter Nate Stinson was able to keep first base occupied soon after with a walk. Cleanup hitter Kenny Rodriguez then stepped to the plate and worked a 2-2 count. He then hit a two-run home run to give the Woodchucks an early 2-0 lead. This was Rodriguez's first home run of the season.
Catcher Nolan Soliveres started the second inning with a single. He then stole second base just before Lawrence Cicileo walked to first base. The two 'Chucks runners then performed a double steal, putting them on second and third base. Leadoff hitter Brandon Seltzer then hit an RBI single that scored Nolan Soliveres from third. This gave the Woodchucks a 3-0 lead.
Like Kenny Rodriguez and the Woodchucks, Chase Hanson and a fellow Booyah runner were able to round the bases after Hanson hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. This made the score 3-2 with the Woodchucks still leading. The home run was given up by Woodchucks starting pitcher Beau Nichols. Nichols is no stranger to Capital Credit Union Park. He started for the Woodchucks in Green Bay just six days ago. This time, he pitched four innings, giving up four runs off of five hits. He walked four and struck out six.
The Booyah took the lead in the bottom of the third inning after scoring two runs. The Woodchucks got the first two Booyah batters out, but then put two men on by hitting a batter and walking another. With a man on first and second, Booyah batter Mike Ferri hit an RBI double that scored both of the runners on base. This gave the Booyah their first lead of the game with the score at 4-3.
The fourth through ninth inning remained scoreless after impressive appearances from each team's relief pitchers. Jose Varela came on to pitch for the Woodchucks in the fifth inning. He pitched four flawless innings, giving up zero runs and zero hits. He walked one and struck out five.
Chandler Ingram pitched two innings in relief for the Booyah. He gave up zero runs on three hits and added in two strikeouts. Jaret Godman was the closer for the Booyah. He pitched the eighth and ninth inning. Godman only allowed one hit, had one strikeout, and earned the save that gave the Booyah the 4-3 victory over the Woodchucks.
