New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Bowie, MD- Randy Boone allowed two runs in a season-high seven innings to earn his first victory since April 11, and Brian Jeroloman and Adam Calderone both smashed two-run homers to power the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 6-2 victory over the Bowie Baysox on Saturday night at Prince George's Stadium.
Boone (2-2) matched a season high by fanning seven, holding Bowie (20-22) to seven hits while retiring the side in order in three of his final five innings.
Trystan Magnuson polished off the night with two shutout innings of relief, lowering his ERA to 1.03.
Trailing 2-1 in the top of the fourth, Jeroloman (1-for-3, HR, BB, 2 RBI, 2 R) tagged a two-run homer, his fifth, off Baysox starter and losing pitcher Steve Johnson, clearing the right field wall after Jonathan Diaz walked, giving the Fisher Cats a 3-2 lead. Later in the inning, Darin Mastroianni walked, swiped second for his league-leading 20th stolen base of the season, advanced to third on Callix Crabbe's bunt single and scored when Johnson committed a throwing error on a pick-off attempt at first, making it 4-2.
Calderone's two-run blast, his eighth, off Johnson in the sixth capped the scoring.
Johnson (1-3) allowed six runs -five earned- in 5.2 innings in the defeat. The righty allowed seven hits, walked six and struck out six.
After waiting out a 32-minute rain delay, the Fisher Cats (26-15) got on the board in the top of the first inning. Crabbe (1-for-4, BB, SB, R) drew a walk, advanced two bases on a pair of wild pitches from Johnson, and scored when Shawn Bowman (2-for-5, 2B, RBI) roped a double into the left field corner for a 1-0 lead.
Bowie took a 2-1 lead by stringing together four consecutive two-out singles off Boone in the bottom of the second, with Caleb Joseph and Carlos Rojas each delivering RBI hits, scoring Jonathan Tucker and Steve Lerud, respectively.
New Hampshire and Bowie wrap up their three-game series on Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm with Fisher Cats right-hander Zach Stewart (2-1, 6.12) opposing Baysox righty Chorye Spoone (2-5, 5.18). Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 1:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.
The Fisher Cats welcome the Trenton Thunder to Merchantsauto.com Stadium over Memorial Day weekend, with three straight Atlas Fireworks Shows scheduled for Friday, May 28 (7:05pm); Saturday, May 29 (6:05pm, doubleheader); and Sunday, May 30 (6:05pm).
