New Britain Rock Cats News Release

NEW BRITAIN, CT - New Britain's Santos Arias turned in a solid spot start performance, but he was outperformed by rookie Chris Schwinden as Binghamton escaped with a 3-1 victory in front of a standing room-only crowd of 7,884 - the fifth sellout and largest crowd of the 2010 season. The B-Mets snapped a nine-game skid and ended the Rock Cats' three game win-streak.

Schwinden (1-0), who was making his Double-A debut for the B-Mets, limited the Rock Cats to one run on six hits through six innings. He struck out five.

Arias (0-6) took the mound for his first start of the season and retired the first three batters he faced before giving up a leadoff homer to Marshall Hubbard to start off the second inning. Arias retired the next five-straight batters before Kirk Nieuwenhuis launched a two-out solo shot over the right field wall in the third inning to put the B-Mets on top, 2-0.

The two home runs were the only runs Binghamton managed off of Arias, who limited the Mets to three hits over 4 2/3 innings.

The Rock Cats cut the lead in half with a homer off its own when Erik Lis slugged a solo shot over the right field wall with one out in the bottom of the fourth.

Binghamton added another run in the ninth when Matthew Williams unleashed a wild pitch with the bases loaded that allowed Nick Evans to score from third. The run was charged to Loek Van Mil, who allowed two hits in 2 1/3 innings out of the bullpen.

Josh Stinson notched his first save of the season for the B-Mets. For the Rock Cats, Ben Revere had a game-high three hits.
