Schaumburg Boomers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - After spotting the visiting Road Warriors a four-run cushion, the Schaumburg Boomers battled back to get within a run before eventually dropping a tough 6-5 decision at Boomers Stadium Saturday.
The Boomers (47-36) failed to capitalize on another loss by both the Windy City ThunderBolts and Gateway Grizzles. However, Schaumburg did not lose any ground in the Frontier League's tight West Division race as the Boomers remain a game back in the standings.
Schaumburg collected 12 hits in the game and four Boomers sluggers had multi-hit performances in a losing effort. Jereme Milons led the way with his first three-hit performance of 2012 while Steve McQuail and Nate Baumann bothcontributed a 2-4 effort with an extra base hit, a walk and a run scored. All-Star third baseman Frank Pfister also finished 2-4 on the night with his team-leading 53rd run batted in.
The Road Warriors pulled away early with a run in the first and three in the second against Boomers starter Cody Griebling, who fell to 4-2 with the loss. The Schaumburg rookie allowed six runs, four earned, on seven hits over his 5.2 innings of work. The Road Warriors Tanner Leighton finished 2-5 on the night and capped off the rally with the second of his two doubles in the game in the second inning. The Boomers fought back scoring a run in the fifth, sixth and two in the seventh but failed to get the tying run across the plate andfell to 30-14 at home.
The Boomers and Road Warriors square off in the final game of this series Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. with RHP Matt Kuna (2-4, 3.61) getting the start for Schaumburg and RHP Matt Schimpf (4-7, 5.26) taking the mound for the Road Warriors.
