River City Rascals News Release

Traverse City, Mich. - Rascal starting pitcher Tony Marsala carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning but his second hit allowed in that inning was a league-high 27th homerun from Jose Vargas that stood up as the game winner in a 4-0 defeat to the Beach Bums.

Marsala (4-7) walked two through the first five innings but the Rascal offense was held to three hits and issued six strikeouts by Kurt Wunderlich (2-0) over that stretch before the blast from Vargas made it 2-0 in the sixth.

River City (40-43) put runners at second and third in the seventh but pinch hitter Corey LeVier struck out to end the frame before the Beach Bums (54-28) extended their lead to 4-0 on a homer from Sean Gusrang off Justin Gill after Marsala was chased from the game following a walk to start the seventh.

The Rascals had no answer for Nick Capito who allowed two hits the rest of the way on four strikeouts to earn the save as the Beach Bums evened the series and ended River City's four-game win streak.

The rubber game is set for 5:05 ET on Sunday with Rascal rookie Justin Sarratt (1-2, 6.65) taking the mound against Reid Kelly (8-3, 3.71).
