
CornBelters lose 5-1

NORMAL -The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, lost the second game in their series 5-1 after a huge ninth inning for the Rockford RiverHawks.
The CornBelters were the first on the board after Sam Judah reached base on a walk. He advanced to second after a single by Bubby Williams and came home when Jason Thompson hit an RBI single, giving Normal a 1-0 lead in the second.
No one else would score until the top of the ninth inning, when Rockford's Justino Cuevas hit a double and was singled home by Mike Thomas to tie the game at 1-1. Thomas reached third base after a fielder's choice and CornBelters' error. He crossed the plate on an RBI single by Michael Hur, for the RiverHawks. Rockford drove home three more runs before the end of the inning, giving the River Hawks a 5-1, final lead.
Tyler Lavigne (5-8) took the loss after pitching eight and one-third innings, while Rockford's Ziggie VanderWall (7-5) pitched eight innings for the win.
The CornBelters will finish the first series of the home stand on Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. at the Corn Crib. The 'Belters will put Jacob Liedka (2-10, 4.08 ERA) on the mound to face Rockford's Nick Anderson (0-2, 3.93 ERA).
