TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Traverse City scored three runs in the first inning, but saw Schaumburg score the final five runs of the contest as the Boomers bested the Beach Bums 5-3 on Thursday night at Wuerfel Park.

The Beach Bums put runners at the corners with nobody out in the first and Scott Woodward stole second base while the throw trickled into center field, allowing Jeff DeBlieux to score the first run of the game. Jose Vargas then singled home Woodward to make it 2-0. Vargas would come around to score on a Sean Gusrang single, giving Traverse City a 3-0 edge.

However, Schaumburg immediately responded with a pair of runs in the second. Gerard Hall reached on a run-scoring fielder's choice and scampered home on a Michael Valadez double to cut the TC lead to 3-2. An inning later, Joe De Pinto led off with a solo homer to tie the game at three.

The score remained deadlocked until the sixth inning when Schaumburg's Tony Delmonico blasted a leadoff shot off Traverse City starter Tanner Tripp to give the Boomers their first lead at 4-3. Valadez would double later in the frame and score on a Jordan Dean single to up the advantage to 5-3. Tripp (1-6) took the loss for the Beach Bums by allowing all five runs on 11 hits in 5.1 innings.

Traverse City's offense was kept quiet after the multi-run first inning, mustering just three hits and a walk in the final eight at-bats. Seth Webster (5-2) rebounded to fire five frames for the win for Schaumburg, allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Dexter Price worked around a one-out single in the ninth to pick up his 16th save of the year.

Offensively, Kevin Taylor led the Beach Bums with a pair of base knocks, including a double, to extend his hitting streak to seven games. DeBlieux extended his on-base streak to 13 games in a row with a walk in the first.

Traverse City will look to salvage the final game of the series on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Alex Phillips (1-6, 3.74) starts for the Beach Bums against the Boomers' Hunter Ackerman (3-1, 4.31). In addition to postgame fireworks on Friday night, the Beach Bums, in conjunction with Passageways Travel and TVC Airport, will give away a seven-day vacation to Mexico for two to one lucky fan in attendance.
