Joliet Slammers News Release

The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy-clobbered the Frontier Greys 13-2 on Thursday night.

Joliet struck early on a sacrifice fly from Matt Weaver in the 1st and then they added three more in the 2nd inning. With one out, the Slammers came up with four straight singles. Grant DeBruin picked up an RBI with the last of those singles and Russell Moldenhauer walked with the bases loaded for a run batted in as well. Adam Giacalone followed with a sacrifice fly for the 3rd run of the inning. In the meantime, Joliet starter Travis Bradshaw came out pitching well. He did give up a double in the 1st inning to Jon Minucci and that produced a play at the plate. Leadoff hitter Jon Dziomba tried to score on the play and ran over Slammers catcher Adam Lewis to jar the ball loose. Dziomba was called out on the play and was ejected as well as home plate collisions are now against the rules in the Frontier League. Luckily Lewis was uninjured although his helmet and mask flew off in the collision. Bradshaw went the first five innings to pick up the win. He allowed no runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Sam Moore came on in relief in the sixth. Kevin McNorton pitched the 7th and Jordan Wellander came on in the 8th. David Kubiak closed it out in 9th. He allowed the only two runs on the day to Frontier on RBI from Chris Ellison and Zach Tanner.

The Slammers broke the game open in the 5th inning with six runs. DeBruin ripped an RBI double off the wall in left field and Moldenhauer followed with an RBI single to make it 6-0. Giacalone was next and he crushed a 3-run homer to up the lead to 9-0. Chris Epps third hit of the day, a single to right made the score 10-0. Joliet's onslaught continued with two more runs in the bottom of the 7th on an RBI single from Lewis and then a run-scoring grounder from Epps to make it a 12-0 ballgame. It became 13-0 on a solo homer from Matt Weaver. That meant that every Slammer in the lineup had at least one hit on the day. They finished with 16 hits on the day. Joliet avenged their 12-0 loss from a day earlier to even the series at one game apiece.

The Slammers continue a six-game home stand with a Fireworks Friday which will also be Princess Night at Silver Cross Field. Saturday's 6:05pm start is NASCAR night with postgame music from the Fender Benders. Sunday's Family Day at 1:05pm is where kids 12-and-under eat free and can run the base after the game as well as get autographs from the players.
