Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Football Club President & CEO Lyle Bauer responded today to a story printed in the Winnipeg Free Press regarding the football club ("Bomber hazing draws fire", page A1, Sept. 2, 2004):

"The Winnipeg Football Club has investigated the incident reported and although this incident was somewhat sensationalized by people who weren't in attendance during the occurrence of the event, we have the following statement:

"The Winnipeg Football Club management and coaches do not condone any type of hazing or similar acts. The players involved in this incident have been spoken to. Furthermore, the Winnipeg Football Club would like to apologize to Manitoba youth athletes for any misconstrued message this may have sent.

"The Winnipeg Football Club, its players and its coaches invest thousands of hours and dollars annually in the promotion of high-school athletics, fair play, sportsmanship and good community citizenship. We in no way want to detract from the positive influences that our athletes have on the youth of Manitoba."
