September 2, 2004 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB â The activities are in place for the Banjo Bowl Weekend â three days of fan events that promote fun and support the United Way from Sept. 10-12.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are creating their own traditional weekend like Labour Day with these events:
BANJO BOWL SOCIAL â FRIDAY, SEPT. 10
The Banjo Bowl Weekend kicks off with the Banjo Bowl Social, which begins at 5:00 p.m. at the Tijuana Yacht Club. The club is located in Canada Inns Polo Park at the corner of Century and St. Matthews.
There will be hourly prize draws until 10:00 p.m. Get to the social so you can have a chance to win a trip for two to the 2004 Grey Cup in Ottawa. Along with the great music, there will be trivia contests and a "True Blue Fan Award" that will go to some lucky fan dressed in a blue-and-gold costume.
If that's not enough, the Labatt Blue Lightning Dance Team will also be in attendance.
Tickets for the event are only $10.00 and available at Ticketmaster and the Winnipeg Football Club Office, 1465 Maroons Road.
FAMILY FUN DAY â SATURDAY, SEPT. 11
Blue Bombers fans can watch and meet their favorite team on Saturday at Canad Inns Stadium from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Come watch the Blue Bombers practice from 10:15-11:00 a.m. at the stadium. An autograph session with the players and coaches follows practice.
The Labatt Blue Lightning Dance Team, Captain Blue and mascots Buzz & Boomer will be on hand to add to the event.
Fans can also check out the McDonald's Sports Zone that has fun activities for the entire family in the South End Zone.
NATIONAL POST CHARITY BANJO BOWL â SUNDAY, SEPT. 12
The Banjo Bowl Weekend culminates with the big game between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and their traditional prairie rivals, the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The pre-game party starts at 11:00 a.m. in the South End Zone, featuring the White Hot Chilly Pickers â a group of talented blue grass banjo players who take to the stage at 11:30 a.m.
Kickoff for the game â which is sponsored by Palliser Furniture â is 1:00 p.m. The winning team will receive the Banjo Bowl Trophy and $10,000 courtesy of the National Post. The money will go directly to the United Way in the province of the winning side.
The half-time show will consist of an outhouse building contest sponsored by Windsor Plywood.
COMMEMORATIVE BANJO BOWL T-SHIRTS
Remember the great weekend by buying a commemorative Banjo Bowl T-Shirt, which is now available at the Bomber Store for $16.95 with $5.00 being donated to the United Way.
