Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Crestwood, IL. - An eight run second inning by the Windy City Thunderbolts proved to be too much for the Lake Erie Crushers to overcome as the Bolts completed a three game sweep with a 13-6 victory Thursday night at Standard Bank Stadium.
The game started in promising fashion for Lake Erie as they would score four times in the top of the first inning to grab the early lead. Jodem Rivera scored on a double by Andrew Saylor combined with an error on Windy City left fielder J.T. Restko. Crushers right fielder Wayne Bond added a two run double and then first baseman Arden McWilliams brought home Bond with a run scoring single.
But the Thunderbolts would respond with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and then would add a staggering eight runs in the second, featuring three run homers by DH Mike Sullivan and third baseman Nate Hall. Windy City would tack on two more runs in the third inning.
Lake Erie starter Josh Faiola surrendered 12 runs, ten earned on 11 hits in his three innings of work. Relievers Steven DeFratus and Brian Chambers would provide some much needed innings as they worked a combined five innings, surrendering just a run on two hits.
The Crushers would complete the scoring with third baseman Andrew Davis' first home run of the year, a two run shot, in the eighth inning.
Lake Erie will move on to play at Rockford for a three game series starting Friday night at 8:05 EDT. Left-hander Darwin DeLeon will make his first start of the season.
