Bobcats to Host 2005 NAHL National Tournament
August 4, 2004 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Bismarck Bobcats News Release
The Bismarck Bobcats Jr. âA' Hockey team held a press conference at the VFW Sportscenter Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at 2:00pm to officially announce that Bismarck-Mandan, ND, has been awarded the opportunity to host the 2005 USA Hockey North American Hockey League Junior A National Tournament.
The owner of the Bismarck Bobcats, Thom Brigl, made the official announcement along with General Manager Mat Hulberg and coaches Chad Johnson and Dane Litke.
"This will be a tremendously exciting event for the Bismarck-Mandan community, in terms of sport, community promotion and commerce. The Bobcats have won consecutive Borne Cup championships and have made appearances in the National Tournament for the past two seasons," stated Thom Brigl on the event. "We know what to expect and are looking forward to competing in the tournament. In addition, we are proud to bring to this community the opportunity to be a showcase for USA Hockey and the NAHL and are confident that Bismarck and Mandan will put on a first class tournament."
After capturing the "Borne Cup" for the past two seasons and participating in the National Tournament both years, which were held in Saulte Ste. Marie, MI, in 2003 and Frisco, TX, in 2004, the Bismarck Bobcats will be the host team this 2004-2005 season. "As such, we will also be awarded an automatic seed in the tournament. Having been so close the last two years, you know we will be gunning to win it all next year," says Coach Johnson.
The North American Hockey League (NAHL) is broken down into three divisions and the number one team from each division concluding playoffs qualifies for the National Tournament and then the host team makes up the fourth team.
The tournament is a four-day event comprised of round-robin play and then one day of championship play. Season ticket holders will be given the first opportunity to reserve their seats. Because some tickets will be blocked for teams and fans coming from across the country, tickets will be limited and sold on a first-come first-serve basis after reserved ticket holders are taken care of. The final dates and packages will be finalized after the playoffs.
