Jr. Blues hungry for chowder
August 4, 2004 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
The Springfield Jr. Blues travel to suburban Boston the weekend of August 5th to August 8th to compete in the highly-scouted 2004 John Cunniff Chowder Cup Tournament, at Iorio Arena in Walpole and the SportsPlex in Canton, Massachusetts
The Jr. Blues join the Texas Tornado as the only representatives from the North American Hockey League to compete in the event. Forty select teams from the United States and Canada will be competing for the Chowder Cup.
The Chowder Cup has been played each summer since 1984 and is considered one of the top summer tournaments of its kind in the United States. It offers the players some great pre-season scouting opportunities by various college and pro scouts.
For the Blues coaches, this competition against some of the top talent in North America. provides an early look at the team which hopes to make a return to the USA Hockey Gold Cup National Tournament next spring. The Jr. Blues won a Bronze medal at last season's Gold Cup tourney following their NAHL North Division playoff championship.
"This is a great event for our players," said Jr. Blues head coach Nick Pollos. "It gives the guys a chance to get added exposure to the NCAA programs and the NHL and it also gives us a good look at where we will be starting as a team this year."
