Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

BROOKLYN, NY - The BlueClaws earned their first win of the season, topping Brooklyn 8-6 on Saturday afternoon at Maimonides Park. The BlueClaws stole nine bases in the win, including four by Troy Schreffler. Hao Yu Lee had two hits and drove in two runs.

The teams have split the first two games of their three-game series and will play the rubber game on Sunday.

Schreffler's four stolen bases were one of the franchise record of five set in 2004 by Javon Moran. They were also the most by a BlueClaw since Brian Pointer stole four bases against Lexington on May 5, 2013. The nine BlueClaws stolen bases matched the nine they stole on April 8th last year against Aberdeen in the first game of the season. The franchise record is 10, set in 2004 against Hickory on April 17th in the game Moran stole five.

The BlueClaws jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Nick Ward, who signed with the Phillies in December, drove in his first run as a member of the organization. Troy Schreffler added an RBI infield single to bring home the game's second run. Then, with Schreffler on first and Jared Carr on third, Schreffler stole second with Carr swiping home on the throw through.

Jersey Shore starter Gunner Mayer threw two innings and allowed one run, on a wild pitch. Chase Antle came on in the third for his professional debut. He was greeted by a Kevin Parada home run to cut the lead to 3-2.

The BlueClaws, however, responded with four runs in the fourth inning to blow the game open. Jared Carr reached on an error, which brought in Casey Martin with the go-ahead run. Schreffler drove in a run on a fielder's choice, his second RBI of the game. Hao Yu Lee added an RBI single and Marcus Lee Sang scored on a wild pitch as part of the big inning.

After Brooklyn scored three times in the fifth off Matt Russell to get back in the game, Hao Yu Lee singled home a run in the sixth to put the BlueClaws up 8-5.

Brooklyn got an unearned run in the seventh, but Carlos Francisco came on in the 8th and threw two scoreless innings to earn the first BlueClaws save of the season. It was Francisco's fourth save of the season and first with the BlueClaws.

Antle (1-0) earned the win while Dylan Tebrake (0-1) took the loss. The Cyclones starter gave up three runs in three innings.

The teams finish their series with an Easter Sunday matinee at 2:00 on Coney Island. LHP Matt Osterberg starts for Jersey Shore.
