Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

Lexington, KY - The Lakewood BlueClaws (8-7) losing streak stretched to five games as they lost 9-1 to the Legends (9-7), Single-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, on Saturday night. The Legends scored five runs in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach for Lakewood.

The BlueClaws trailed the entire game but kept it close until the eighth inning when things fell apart for Lakewood and reliever Cory Dueitt. Dueitt allowed five runs, one earned on five hits in one inning of work as the Legends batted all the way around in the inning. Two errors in the inning also helped out the Legends.

Lakewood trailed 2-0 entering the sixth but a solo-homer with one out in the inning from Brad Harman pulled the BlueClaws to within one. It was Harman's third homer of the year.

The Legends added two more runs in the seventh inning for a 4-1 lead. Drew Sutton connected for an RBI double then with two-outs Brandon Barganier followed up with an RBI base hit.

The Legends scored their first time up for an early 1-0 lead. With one out in the inning Justin Towles and Hunter Pence connected for back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second. Ole Sheldon followed up with an RBI base hit plating Towles for the first run of the game.

Lexington added another run in the fifth on a two-out RBI double from Towles. Sutton reached base when he was hit by a pitch then came around to score on Towles double.

Lakewood had the bases loaded in the eighth inning with nobody out but could not get a hit. Doug Gredvig struck out, Jason Jaramillo popped out on the infield then Chris Klemm grounded out to end the inning.

Lakewood starter Matt Sweeney (L, 1-1) pitched well allowing just two runs on five hit while walking one and striking out four over six innings.

The BlueClaws fell to 0-7 against the Legends this year and are currently 3-5 on their nine game road trip.

Lakewood wraps up their nine game road trip and four game series with the Legends on Sunday Night. The BlueClaws will send left-hander Derek Griffith (4-7, 4.13) to the mound. The Legends will counter with right-hander Even Englebrook (6-2, 3.46). First pitch on Sunday night is at 6:05 p.m. with on-air time at 5:50 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.

This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the great promotions, fireworks every Friday night home game and kids eat free Monday Nights courtesy of Shop Rite. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against the New York Mets affiliate.
