(Eastlake, OH)--Fernando Pacheco's RBI double in the fourth inning Saturday night helped the Captains post a 7-3 comeback win over the Delmarva Shorebirds at Classic Park.
It was the second straight win for the Captains (9-7, 49-37), who pulled to within two games of the first-place Shorebirds.
Delmarva (11-5, 41-45) took an early 2-0 lead on Captains starter Chuck Lofgren. The Captains tied the game in the third inning with two runs off Joe Coppinger (0-1). Joe Ortega walked and came home on an RBI single by Trevor Crowe. Crowe later scored on a passed ball to tie the game 2-2.
In the third, Tim Montgomery led off with a base hit, and Pacheco followed with a double to the gap in right to chase home Montgomery for a 3-2 lead. It was the 12th double of the season for Pacheco, who now has 37 RBI.
After Pacheco, Chris Gimenez walked and Marshall Szabo singled. Jose Ortega followed with a sacrifice fly to score Pacheco, and Juan Valdes capped the inning with a run-scoring base hit to give the Captains a 5-2 lead.
Lofgren left after four innings, and three Captains relievers combined to allow just one run over the final five innings. Adrian Schau and Ryan Knippschild (1-0) tossed two perfect innings each, and Kyle Collins worked the ninth, allowing only a solo homer to C.J. Smith.
Crowe finished the night 3-5, adding an RBI double in he eighth. In his first four games with the Captains, Crowe is hitting .471.
Szabo added three hits, all singles, and Ortega had two RBI.
The Captains and Shorebirds will wrap-up the series on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 (WELW AM 1330).
