Chipper Jones Scheduled to Play in Rome Wednesday Night

Rome, GA - Atlanta Braves third-baseman Chipper Jones is scheduled to join the Rome Braves on Wednesday to begin a rehabilitation assignment. Jones has been out of the Atlanta line-up since June 6th with a partially torn ligament in his left foot. This is the second rehab visit to Rome for Jones who played at State Mutual Stadium on May 6th of last year.

The veteran third baseman doesn't know how long his rehab stint will last. "A lot is going to depend on how I feel mobility-wise and how I feel at the plate," Jones said. "I don't want to come back into the lineup and come out struggling. I want to go out there and produce like a guy in the middle of the lineup should." In his minor league career Jones last played in the Class A ranks in 1992, when he spent the first 70 games of the season with the Braves' high-A affiliate, which was then located in Durham. Jones played with the Macon Braves in 1991 and was named the Most Outstanding Major League Prospect that season in the South Atlantic League. Rome begins an eight game home stand Wednesday against Kannapolis. Tickets are available for Thursday night's game and for information call the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144.
