Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - Colby Shreve's first professional start was a memorable one.
The 22-year old righty missed all of 2008 and 2009 recovering from Tommy John surgery, but made up for lost time Thursday night.
Shreve (1-0) was terrific through 5.1 innings, holding the Intimidators (9-13) to just two hits and one earned run in a 4-1 BlueClaws win.
Lakewood (13-9) second baseman Jeremy Barnes extended his hit streak to 10 games, going 2-for-4 and driving in the winning run on a base hit in the third inning. Barnes ended up with half of the BlueClaws four hits.
Intimidators starter Justin Collup (0-2) took the loss despite giving up just one earned on three hits in five innings of work.
Lakewood opened the scoring in the second. Darin Ruf singled to lead off the inning, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on an Adam Buschini groundout to make it 1-0 Lakewood.
The Intimidators would tie it up in the bottom half of the inning, but Lakewood jumped back in front on Barnes' RBI single in the third.
The BlueClaws would add two more runs in the sixth, but they wouldn't need them.
Shreve, Ebelin Lugo, Jacob Diekman and Joshua Zeid (S, 3) combined to limit the Kannapolis offense to just five hits total.
Friday night at 7:05 pm LHP Matt Way (0-2 6.20) goes up against Kannapolis LHP Joseph Serafin (2-2 2.66).
The last time Way pitched at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium he dominated the Intimidators over seven innings as the BlueClaws beat Kannapolis 4-2 to start the 2009 SAL Division Series.
