Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

On Dale Earnhardt's birthday, the Kannapolis Intimidators celebrated a new attraction to the front of the stadium by unveiling a number three stock car. However, the Intimidators could not carry that celebration over to the field as they fell to the Lakewood BlueClaws 4-1 in game two of a four-game series.

The teams both traded runs as the BlueClaws (13-9) struck first in the second inning, but with two outs in the second, Brady Shoemaker doubled with two outs to tie the game at one. The one run would be all the Intimidators would score as they have scored a single run in three of their last four games. Shoemaker was 3-for-4 on the day in his return to the lineup from a stay in Extended Spring Training.

The BlueClaws notched another run as Jeremy Barnes singled home Jiwan James from second in the third inning, giving the BlueClaws a lead they never relinquished.

Justin Collop made his third start of the season for the Intimidators and first after a short stay on the disabled list. Collop (0-2) went five innings, allowing three hits and two runs, one earned. His counterpart Colby Shreve, in his first professional start, picked up his first professional win. Shreve (1-0) went 5.1 innings, allowing just two hits and one run. Joshua Zeid picked up the save, his third of the season working an easy ninth.

This is the fourth straight loss for the Intimidators after they went on a 9-3 stretch over 12 games to even their record at .500. The BlueClaws have won four straight. The Intimidators are now 3-11 in home games this season.

The Intimidators and BlueClaws will be back at it on Friday night at 7:05 pm as Joe Serafin (2-2) goes in search of his third win of the season. He will be opposed by fellow lefty Matthew Way (0-2).
