Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE, NC - One day after the Asheville Tourists shutout the Lakewood BlueClaws at McCormick Field, the Tourists surrendered a season-high 19 hits to the BlueClaws and lost 13-6. Lakewood scored 10 of their 13 runs in the first two innings and Asheville never did recover.
After the BlueClaws scored three runs in the top of the first on Jose Pujols' Home Run to left, the Tourists answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half. Brian Mundell singled home Mylz Jones and two batters later Chris Rabago drove in two runs with a double to right field.
Lakewood wasted no time responding. The BlueClaws pounded out seven hits and drew a walk before the Tourists could record an out in the top of the second. They added two more hits in the frame and finished with seven runs to make it a 10-3 game.
Brendan Rodgers brought the Tourists back within striking distance with a three-run Home Run in the bottom of the second. Unfortunately for Asheville, it was the final time they would plate a run in the game. Lakewood added one more in the third and two more in the seventh.
Dylan Craig suffered the loss after he surrendered ten runs in just over one inning pitched. Shane Watson made it through five innings for the BlueClaws and notched his second win of the season. Asheville's bullpen combined to pitch eight innings and allowed just one earned run.
The series rubber match will take place on Friday night at 7:05pm.
