LEADING OFF: West Virginia edged Charleston 3-2 in 10 innings on Wednesday night. Ke'Bryan Hayes hit a solo home run in the first inning to give the Power the early lead. The RiverDogs evened the score in the third and the game remained tied until the top of the seventh. Christian Kelley singled in Daniel Arribas for a 2-1 lead. Charleston pinned a blown save on Tanner Anderson with a run in the bottom of the ninth, but the Power made Anderson a winner with a Hayes sac fly in the top of the tenth inning. Mitch Keller did not factor in the decision, but did work a career-best seven innings, allowing just the one run on three hits while striking out six.

EXTRA EFFORT: Wednesday's contest was West Virginia's fourth extra inning game this season. The Power are 4-0 in extra innings, having won in 10 twice, 12 once and 16 innings once as well. Hickory is the only other club in the league that is perfect in extra innings, having gone 2-0 so far, while Charleston in the only team that has played more extra inning games this season. The RiverDogs are now 2-3 in extras after their loss to the Power on Wednesday.

HAYES NOW: Ke'Bryan Hayes home run in the first inning Wednesday was the second of his professional career. The 19-year-old leads the Power with a .333 average and 16 runs batted in.

A FEW MISSED OPPORTUNITIES: Through 25 games, Power relief pitchers have blown five saves, the most of any staff in the South Atlantic League. The Power have, however, won three of those fives games when charged with a blown save. Three teams have blown four saves and Greensboro has only blown one.

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: Sunday's game two, 6-1 loss was the largest margin of defeat this season for the Power this year. West Virginia had not lost by more than two runs during the first 23 games of the season.

PROMOTED SOUTH: Tate Scioneaux was promoted to the Bradenton Marauders roster on Tuesday. The right-hander is 1-0 this season with a 1.13 earned run average. Scioneaux allowed three runs, two earned, over 16 innings of work this season with the Power. He also leads West Virginia with three saves.

TOUGH TIME: Casey Hughston is batting .026 over his last 11 games with one hit over 38 at bats. The outfielder has struck out at least once in nine straight. Hughston began his pro career in a similar way last season, going 1-43 over his first 11 games. He followed that by hitting .272 over the final 50 games of his 2015 season.

DOWN TO START: Prior to Sunday's two losses, West Virginia had only allowed two first inning runs this season. The Power surrendered six runs between the two first innings on Sunday.

WEST V SOUTH: The Charleston RiverDogs lead the all-time series against the Power 37-29 going back to the 2005 season. The Power and RiverDogs meet for ten games this season, all of which will be played before the All-Star break. Each of the first six games will be played in South Carolina, while the final series will play out at Appalachian Power Park to close the first half.

POWER POINTS: The next former Power player to reach the Majors will be the 50th to do so in franchise history... West Virginia has laid down 16 sac bunts this season, one behind Asheville for the most in the league... The Power will play nine of the next 13 games on the road.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh fell 6-2 to the Chicago Cubs. Matt Joyce hit his fourth home run of the year in the loss... Indianapolis blanked Durham 6-0... Altoona doubled up Erie 4-2. Erich Weiss drove in a pair to back Brandon Waddell in his Double-A debut... Bradenton's game with St. Lucie was postponed.

PROMO UPDATE: On May 7, the Power host the Hagerstown Suns. This is the first Saturday home game this season to begin at 7:05 P.M. The first 1,000 fans will receive a squishy Chuck toy during Angry Birds Night.

ON THE AIR: West Virginia Power games can be heard on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, online at wvpower.com and on the TuneIn Radio App. Adam Marco will call the action once again and will be joined by Greg Wong when the team plays at Appalachian Power Park.
