Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, WV- May 5, 2016)- The West Virginia Power lost an 8-3 final to the Charleston RiverDogs Thursday evening at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park in Charleston, SC. The RiverDogs used two three-run innings to take the second game of this three-game set.
The Power took a 1-0 lead two pitches into the game. Tito Polo hit a 1-0 offering from Anyelo Gomez over the left-center wall to give West Virginia the edge. Charleston tied the game in the home half of the inning on a sacrifice fly from Chris Gittens.
West Virginia recaptured the lead in the second inning when Ryan Nagle doubled, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch. The lead was short-lived once again as the RiverDogs took the lead in the bottom of the second with three runs on three doubles.
Ke'Bryan Hayes hit a solo home run off Gomez in the third to cut the deficit down to 4-3 in the top of the third, but Charleston countered with a second three-run inning for a 7-3 advantage, keyed by Carlos Vidal single that drove in a pair.
In the bottom of the eighth, Jhalan Jackson hit a solo home run to cap Charleston's at scoring 8-3.
Logan Sendelbach (2-1) took the loss after allowing seven runs over two and a third innings. Anyelo Gomez (1-1) earned the win, working five innings of three-run six hit ball. Daris Vargas pitched the final four innings for his second save of the season.
