LAKEWOOD, NJ - Matt Way recovered from a shaky start to pitch six solid innings, and the BlueClaws beat the Kannapolis Intimidators 4-1 Thursday night.

Hickory also won, so with just three games to go in the first half Lakewood (40-27) holds a one game lead in the South Atlantic League North.

Way (6-4) ran into some trouble in the 2nd, giving up a solo shot to Brady Shoemaker on his first pitch of the inning to put Kannapolis (30-36) up 1-0.

The Intimidators then loaded the bases with one out, but Way induced a 1-2-3 double play ground out to get out of the jam. He cruised from there on out, allowing six hits and the one run through six, striking out six.

The BlueClaws scored twice in the bottom of the 2nd to take back the lead for good. Sebastian Valle hit his team leading ninth homer of the season, a two run shot to make it 2-1 Lakewood.

Anthony Hewitt and Alan Schoenberger added RBI singles in the 4th to conclude the scoring. Luke Wertz pitched two scoreless innings, and Jordan Ellis picked up his fifth save of the season out of the pen.

Andre Rienzo (0-3) allowed all four runs in six innings to take the loss.

Friday night at 7:05 pm RHP Jonathan Pettibone (2-2, 5.77) faces RHP Cameron Bayne (5-6, 3.62) for Kannapolis.
