Braves Tame RiverDogs

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Charleston RiverDogs 6-1 in front of 2,048 fans Thursday night at State Mutual Stadium. The Braves were happy to return home after dropping all three road games in Savannah.

Rome took the lead in the first inning 1-0 when Kyle Rose reached on a bunt single and later scored on a Jordan Kreke single to right. The RiverDogs tied the game at 1-1 in the third on an Emerson Landoni (1) homerun.

Five hits and three stolen bases propelled the Braves in the bottom of the third to take back the lead at 5-1. Rose and Cory Harrilchak led off the inning with two straight singles with Rose scoring on a Robert Hefflinger RBI single two batters later. Christian Bethancourt hit a two RBI double to plate Harrilchak and Hefflinger and later scored on a Jace Whitmer single.

Rome scored another run in the eighth when Jake Hanson singled and later scored on a Bethancourt double for the 6-1 final. Bethancourt had three RBI on the night for Rome.

Cory Rasmus (4-4) picks up the win for Rome while Charleston's Kelvin Perez (3-4) gets the loss.

The Braves and RiverDogs play the second game of their four game series tomorrow at 7pm.
